Tanne Pan

Tanne Pan

After thirty years in business in Ningyōchō and Hamachō, Tanne Pan, our local German-style bakery, will be shutting down August 5. The reason? Their oven is breaking down and there aren’t any spare parts available. The oven was custom made in Germany thirty years ago and was flown over to Tokyo due to a six-month delay in manufacturing it. Each of the six or so doors open to separately controlled chambers that cook with both heat and steam. No wonder it is hard, if not impossible to repair or replace.

They will be missed.
